Hall of Fame Plaque Biography

Ryan Sylvia was an all around star athlete at ORR, lettering in four different sports. He led the 2000-2001 basketball team in rebounds, was a varsity baseball player, was an SCC All Star in outdoor track qualifying for the state meet in three events, and was named an Otto Graham Award finalist in football. Ryan excelled in football, evolving from a defensive leader at safety to the starting quarterback position his senior year when he helped lead ORR to a championship. Coach Craig Sherman remarked that Ryan’s leadership, competitive spirit and inspirational play contributed greatly to that team’s success. After graduating from ORR, Ryan went on to play football at Springfield College where he quarterbacked his team to an ECAC Division III North Atlantic Championship. He also set an NCAA Division III record of 21 rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in 2003 and was named the ECAC Northeast Player of the Year.

THE COMPLETE STORY

Expanded Historical Profile

Ryan Sylvia was a four-sport athlete at Old Rochester Regional, earning varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. He led the 2000–01 basketball team in rebounding, played varsity baseball, and earned South Coast Conference All-Star recognition in outdoor track while qualifying for the state meet in three events.

Sylvia made his greatest impact in football. After establishing himself as a defensive leader at safety, he became ORR’s starting quarterback as a senior and helped lead the Bulldogs to a championship. His performance and leadership also made him a finalist for the Otto Graham Award.

After graduating from ORR in 2001, Sylvia continued his football career at Springfield College. Springfield’s official records identify him as its 2004 ECAC Division III North Atlantic championship-game MVP and a team captain that season. In 2003, he earned first-team Freedom Football Conference honors and its Offensive Player of the Year award, along with first-team ECAC Northeast recognition. His ORR plaque also credits him with a Division III quarterback rushing-touchdown record of 21 in 2003.

SOURCES & HISTORICAL NOTES

Documenting the record

October 16, 2026: plaque biography reconciled directly against the existing photograph of the physical 2016 plaque. The inscription matches. Printed errors and induction-era claims remain part of the plaque record; this is not independent verification of every historical claim. No photographs were added or changed.

Plaque biography transcribed from official 2016 manufacturer artwork. The approved Class of 2001 yearbook portrait was standardized to the Jefferson presentation standard, with the original historical source preserved.

The Hall of Fame archive also preserves the complete 2016 display (IMG_1877.HEIC), pairing the historical photograph and induction plaque. That original display is included in the profile gallery.

October 14, 2026: text-only editorial review against the existing Hall biography and source notes. Adds college-confirmed captaincy, championship-game MVP and conference awards while attributing the touchdown-record claim to the Hall plaque. This review does not certify an exact physical-plaque match or current record status.

Collegiate additions checked against Springfield College’s official all-time awards and captain list: 2003 FFC Offensive Player of the Year, first-team FFC and ECAC recognition, and 2004 team captain/championship-game MVP. The 21-touchdown record remains attributed to the ORR plaque pending record-scope confirmation.

Follow-up: Confirm the scope of the 2003 quarterback rushing-touchdown record before presenting it as independently verified; new college honors are supported by Springfield’s official lists.
