Hall of Fame Plaque Biography

Miguel “Buster” Brito was an outstanding all-around athlete during the first decade of ORR athletics. As a sophomore, he was a starting end on the varsity football team as well as the MVP of the golf team. But it was on the basketball court where he excelled, leading the Narragansett League in scoring in both his junior and senior years, averaging 18.6 ppg as a junior and 22.3 ppg as a senior. By the end of his ORR career, Miguel held 10 individual ORR school records in basketball, including most points in a game (41), most points in a season (468), and most points in a career (850). His charismatic personality made him a leader on and off the court. Miguel earned a Bachelor’s degree from UMass Amherst and a Master’s degree from Goddard College. Today he is the Executive Director, CEO & Lead Founder of Philip’s Academy Charter School in Newark, NJ.

SOURCES & HISTORICAL NOTES

Documenting the record

The 2015 Hall of Fame plaque biography was checked word for word against the photographed original plaque (IMG_1852.JPEG). Its induction-era wording is preserved. The portrait comes from the Class of 1966 yearbook.

Historical photographs supplied by the Hall of Fame include the 2015 display (IMG_1853.HEIC), a yearbook basketball captain portrait (IMG_1205.HEIC), the basketball team page (IMG_1206.HEIC), and the golf team page (IMG_1208.HEIC). The yearbook identifies Brito in the basketball captions and lists him on the golf roster.
