THE COMPLETE STORY

Expanded Historical Profile

Meredith “Meri” Mattson Days competed in 12 athletic seasons at Old Rochester Regional and earned four team MVP awards. She played four years of volleyball, three years of basketball, captained ORR’s inaugural indoor track team in 1985–86, and made her greatest competitive impact during four spring track seasons.

Mattson Days excelled in the hurdles and high jump, establishing school records in the indoor and outdoor high jump, 50-yard hurdles, 100-yard and 100-meter hurdles, 300-yard hurdles, and shuttle hurdles. She was named spring track MVP as a sophomore, junior, and senior, as well as MVP during her winter season. She also recorded top-three finishes at the state divisional championships in both her sophomore and junior years.

She continued competing at Boston University for two years before transferring to UMass Dartmouth to pursue nursing. Mattson Days later returned to ORR as a track and cross-country coach. During the 2021–22 season, she coached Jen Williams and Maggie Brogioli as both athletes surpassed her longstanding high-jump record in the same meet, extending her influence from record-setting athlete to mentor of the next generation.

A high-jump ligament injury kept Mattson Days out of the state championships during her senior spring season. Her career nevertheless closed with records across both indoor and outdoor track, and her later return as a coach connected that competitive experience with the athletes who followed her.
