During her tenure at Old Rochester, Lauren earned 7 Varsity letters. She shined on the basketball court in which she was the only two- time recipient of the Lady Bulldog Award, an SCC All Star, and named Co-Captain in her senior year. Lauren also competed in track and field where she threw shot put and qualified for both state and regional meets. However, it was on the field hockey field where she excelled and made her mark.
As a sophomore, Lauren solidified the starting varsity goaltending position in which the team went 12-4-2. Out of those 18 games, she earned 7 shut outs in which she had 104 shots fired on her and only allowed 16 goals against. Lauren’s intensity in goal was just beginning.
In net the following year, Lauren’s skill level increased tenfold. That season, the Bulldogs clinched The SCC Co-Championship Title. Lauren took on 114 shots in the 2008 season and only allowed 3 goals against. Lauren’s net-minding ability made her The Top SCC Goalie with 10 shutouts and 111 saves. She was named an SCC All Star, MVP to ORR, and named to The Standard Times Super Team.
The highlight of the season was in the SCC rival game against Apponequet where she stopped 26 shots and clenched a 2-1 win that ensured ORR The Co SCC Title.
In her senior year, Lauren’s defensive ability to see the entire field of play and her constant encouragement toward her defensive unit helped the Lady Bulldogs secure the SCC Championship Title. As a captain of the 2009 team, Lauren’s leadership skills for ORR gained the Massachusetts’ State accolade for allowing the 2nd fewest goals against in Division 2 Field Hockey. As a senior, she deflected 101 shots and earned 14 shutouts. Being recognized throughout the South Coast for her tenacious goaltending talent, Lauren was named The Standard Times Player of The Year, MVP and received the honor of being selected to the Boston Herald All Scholastic Team.
Lauren’s total career save percentage was 0.917%.
Lauren continued her love of field hockey by playing for UMass Dartmouth from 2010 to 2014. In 2013, the Corsairs were undefeated and in 2014 Lauren was captain of the program. She led them in goal for two Little East Conference Championships and two NCAA appearances.

SOURCES & HISTORICAL NOTES
October 16, 2026: plaque biography reconciled directly against the existing photograph of the physical 2024 plaque. Transcription differences were corrected to match the printed inscription. Printed errors and induction-era claims remain part of the plaque record; this is not independent verification of every historical claim. No photographs were added or changed.
Restored printed spacing in two- time. Removed the comma absent after MVP.
Verified against the original 2024 Hall of Fame manufacturer plaque artwork supplied by ORRAHOF. Graduation year recorded as 2010 exactly as shown on the plaque artwork.
October 2, 2026: physical plaque photograph IMG_1790.HEIC from the inductee's Drive folder visually matched by name and 2024 induction label and attached as the plaque reference. Original retained in Drive. HEIC-to-JPEG format conversion only; no crop, retouch or generated detail. Approved primary portrait and earlier biography wording retained. Word-for-word physical-plaque reconciliation remains pending.
The Hall of Fame archive also preserves the complete 2024 display (IMG_1791.HEIC), pairing the historical photograph and induction plaque. That original display is included in the profile gallery.
October 14, 2026: text-only editorial review against the existing Hall biography and source notes. Adds two primary-source All-Conference selections; withholds an inconsistent senior/captain-year chronology. This review does not certify an exact physical-plaque match or current record status.
The Little East Conference’s official field hockey history book identifies Lauren O’Brien as second-team goalkeeper in 2012 and 2013 (PDF page 5), a junior and senior respectively. The plaque’s 2014 captain reference is retained as original wording but omitted from expanded prose pending confirmation.
Follow-up: Little East lists her as a junior in 2012 and senior in 2013; the plaque says captain in 2014. Confirm captain/graduation years. The .917 career save percentage is normalized in prose; the plaque’s percent notation remains unchanged.
