Hall of Fame Plaque Biography

Dominating is the only word to describe Kate’s four year performance in basketball and soccer. On the court, she broke the school scoring record, leading the Lady Bulldogs to an SCC title in ’97 and a State Championship in ’98. She was named an SCC All Star in ’97 and ’98 and was the 1998 Dave Cowens Award winner. On the pitch, her teams won three SCC Championships. In ’98 she was named SCC Player of the Year, Boston Globe Div. II Player of the Year and a Boston Herald All Scholastic. After graduating from ORR, she attended the College of the Holy Cross and continued her stellar soccer career, leading the Lady Crusaders to 3 Patriot League Championships and finishing her career with the season and career assists records.

THE COMPLETE STORY

Expanded Historical Profile

Katherine O’Shaughnessy produced a dominant four-year career in both basketball and soccer at Old Rochester Regional. On the basketball court, she broke the school scoring record and helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to a South Coast Conference championship in 1997 and a state championship in 1998.

O’Shaughnessy was named an SCC basketball All-Star in both 1997 and 1998 and received the Dave Cowens Award in 1998. Her success was equally significant in soccer, where her teams won three SCC championships. During her senior season, she was named SCC Player of the Year, Boston Globe Division II Player of the Year and a Boston Herald All-Scholastic.

After graduating from ORR in 1998, O’Shaughnessy became a four-year starter for Holy Cross women’s soccer from 1998 through 2001. She earned All-Patriot League recognition in every season: first-team honors in 1998, 2000 and 2001, and second-team honors in 1999. Holy Cross credited her with helping the Crusaders reach three consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins and three straight Patriot League Tournament appearances.

In 2000, she helped Holy Cross win the Patriot League championship and reach the NCAA Tournament. She completed her college career with 30 goals, 20 assists and 80 points. Her 20 assists established the program’s career record at the time. As a senior she earned third-team All-New England recognition.

Her two-sport ability continued in college: she also joined the Holy Cross women’s basketball team as a walk-on in 1998–99 and appeared in 20 games. In 2015 she was selected to the Patriot League’s 25th Anniversary women’s soccer team, and in 2017 she entered the Holy Cross Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame.

SOURCES & HISTORICAL NOTES

Documenting the record

Transcription reconciled word for word with the original 2011 physical plaque photograph IMG_1806.HEIC, supplied by ORRAHOF, on October 10, 2026. Original wording and punctuation are preserved.

Verified against the original 2011 Hall of Fame plaque photograph and 1998 ORR yearbook photographs supplied by ORRAHOF. Public display images received only non-generative cropping, grayscale conversion, restrained tonal correction, and modest sharpening; archival originals were preserved separately. The existing approved primary portrait remains in use because it is stronger than the newly submitted yearbook photograph. The smaller basketball group is captioned conservatively without claiming Katherine O’Shaughnessy’s exact position.

Expanded collegiate history checked October 1, 2026 against Holy Cross Athletics’ 2015 Patriot League anniversary-team announcement and the 2017 Varsity Club induction report. These primary sources confirm the 2000 soccer championship, four all-league selections, career totals of 30 goals/20 assists/80 points, 20 basketball appearances in 1998–99 and the 2017 induction.

Historical discrepancy: the plaque’s statement of three Patriot League championships is preserved as the original plaque record. Holy Cross identifies three consecutive tournament appearances and the 2000 soccer championship. The expanded biography follows the collegiate primary sources. Its career-assists record is framed as a record at graduation; the plaque’s season-assists claim has not been independently confirmed here.
