As a four-year varsity starter in both volleyball and softball, Kate Bauer was a true leader in high school girls’ sports in the mid to late 1970’s. Dominating area softball, Kate was a league and Standard Times All-Star three years in a row. Along the way to earning these honors, she was a force to be reckoned with from the infield rubber. During her volleyball career and under the tutelage of Joao Rodriques, Kate, a three-year captain, brought her team to numerous victories. In 1977, the Lady Bulldog team was ranked as the number one seed in Division I State tournament play. Not surprisingly, Kate was the unanimous choice for the top position as a conference All-Star. Kate continues to contribute to ORR athletics, as she is a 29 year coaching veteran for the field hockey team, as well as a former softball and volleyball coach.

SOURCES & HISTORICAL NOTES
Field hockey remains linked because the plaque documents her long ORR coaching contribution. The approved Class of 1978 yearbook portrait was standardized to the Jefferson presentation standard, with the original historical source preserved.
The Hall of Fame archive also preserves the complete 2015 display (IMG_1849.HEIC), pairing the historical photograph and induction plaque. That original display is included in the profile gallery.
October 10, 2026: plaque biography checked word for word against the original physical 2015 plaque photograph IMG_1848.HEIC. Printed wording and punctuation are preserved. Approved portrait and existing gallery retained; original files remain in the Hall archive.
The printed spelling Joao Rodriques is preserved in the plaque transcription; the expanded history uses Joao Rodrigues. Coaching service is described as of the 2015 induction.
