Hall of Fame Plaque Biography

The 1991-92 season proved to be The Year for The Team. For the first (and second) time in 20 years, ORR beat perennial powerhouse Bourne with 5-0 and 5-3 victories. In the first game, ORR outshot Bourne 60-6. ORR rolled to a perfect 10-0-0 SCC record to capture the conference title. In the EMass D3 state tournament, they beat Dover-Sherborn 3-2 (2OT) and St. Mary’s of Lynn 3-2, losing to eventual state champ Westwood 2-1. After the game, the Westwood captains told Coach Chuck Michaud that it was the hardest game they had ever played. With solid defense, an offense with a 6.3 goals per game average, and the area’s top goalie (2.08 GAA), the 1991-92 Hockey team finished with a stellar 16-3-1 record. In the words of Coach Michaud, “You will always be remembered as THE TEAM.”

THE COMPLETE STORY

Expanded Historical Profile

The 1991–92 Old Rochester Regional hockey team paired an undefeated league season with a 16-3-1 overall record. ORR went 10-0-0 in the South Coast Conference and 6-3-1 in non-league play to capture the conference championship. The season also included the program’s first two victories over perennial power Bourne in 20 years, 5-0 and 5-3; ORR outshot Bourne 60-6 in the first meeting.

In the EMass Division 3 state tournament, Old Rochester defeated Dover-Sherborn 3-2 in double overtime and St. Mary’s of Lynn 3-2 before falling 2-1 to eventual state champion Westwood. After that game, Westwood’s captains told Coach Chuck Michaud that it was the hardest game they had ever played. The team combined strong defense, an offense averaging 6.3 goals per game and the area’s top goalie, who posted a 2.08 goals-against average.

The yearbook identifies Jason Medeiros, Mike Kelly, Jason Smith and Matt Regan as team captains. Chuck Michaud served as head coach, assisted by Ray Andrews and Greg Centeio. In his yearbook message, Coach Michaud praised the group’s unity, thanked the players for bringing home the banner and told the seniors that their four years had established a winning tradition. His final words became the team’s lasting identity: “You will always be remembered as THE TEAM.”

Coach Michaud’s yearbook message

“As a group, I am proud to say we are one. Through your accomplishments you have gone a long way, and because of the way you have worked together as a team, you shall go further. As one, you are the toughest team to beat in the area. THANKS FOR THE BANNER!! A special thanks to the third line for the wave that lead us to our many goals, and for opening the door of encouragement that has allowed others to come out for the hockey team regardless of their experience. To the seniors, your four years have brought a winning tradition to our hockey program. You will always be remembered as THE TEAM.”
